I’ve been getting the Velcade shot every two weeks. The side effects with it are increasing. I didn’t think I had neuropathy in my hands because they didn’t feel the same as my feet.
But when I complained to the doc (this time actually the top nurse / doctor’s assistant) that they feel generally stiff, achy, and longer, as they keep bumping into things, and so numb some mornings that I have trouble turning off the alarm, she said that’s neuropathy.
Also, the first moment after I get up from sitting, the first few steps are hard to get going. That’s neuropathy, along with the sand in the feet, socks bunched up in the shoes feeling. These side effects are increasing; not debilitating – but quite annoying.
The nurse was going down a list of questions and got to, “any change in appetite?” I told her I’ve been eating everything in site and was approaching maximum capacity. I told her I might finally have a T-shirt printed that reads, “SEX MAKES ME HUNGRY!” I suggested I might make good money if I print and sell them to old, fat guys.
She started laughing so hard, it appeared it was all she could do to hang on to my medical chart. She was rolling so well I didn’t think it would take much to push her over the edge, so I told her about the T-shirt I would print for guys like me who’ve had prostate surgery, “BETTER ERECTIONS THROUGH CHEMISTRY.” She laughed and laughed, bent over laughing. It’s so much fun to make people laugh.
Scott, you are so amazing, a real inspiration to us all with all you have and are going through and keeping your upbeat personality and great sense of humor. You are a blessing and show us all how life should be done. Love you!
Sorry for being late with a reply but I have had one of those full weeks. It all started on thursday. IT has seem everyday something has to be done or I have to be some whear.
WELL IT sounds to me your having another adventure with what is going on . I also see your staying on top of and making others laugh. Wish I could have been with ya when you were with that nurse that would be have been intresting for sure. I am keeping you in my prayers as allways.
GOT word yesterday or a few days ago another buddy of mine had been dionose with what your dealing with prostrate canser. He is just starting out so I now have 2 of ya that are dealing with the same thing. That is one thing I try hard to keep an eye on and like you he found out about it thought his blood test. So I am now keeping an eye on both of ya . OK keep them laughing and keep us posted. Thanks DON
Don and Diane, thank you both for the kind words and prayers. Don, my weeks have also been packed. I’m trying to catch up on things I didn’t get done last year, and trying to get done as much as I can before the cancer comes back – if it does. If it doesn’t come back, maybe I’ll just get completely caught up on my list of things to do. I also have a friend who was just diagnosed with Prostate cancer. He goes for surgery next month. I can only pray and try to encourage him.
You guys are so lucky to have an R/C track opening so close to your home. I’m sure I would have to find a little more time, and a little spot in my budget to take advantage of that if one opened in Newberg.
Hi Scott, yeah, we are pretty happy about having a track just 4.5 miles from our home. Stoked. Won’t be able to spend as much time there as I would like if I can’t keep working. It will be carpet and will be interchangeable between offroad and oval, so it should be interesting. It looks like they are doing a great job. I really hope your cancer does NOT come back. You are such an inspirational person, but you need a break from all this. Take care.
Diane: Maybe you could end up working at the track. I too hope the cancer does not make it’s move. I kind of feel like I’m getting a brake from it now, two weeks at a time anyway. Thank you
